“Undine” is a classic novella by the German Romantic writer Friedrich de La Motte Fouqué (1777–1843) — a tale of tragic love between the knight Huldbrand and the enchanting water nymph Undine.
Vasily Zhukovsky worked on his translation of the prose story between 1831 and 1836.
.
I developed this book as my Bachelor’s graduation project during my fourth year at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts in 2011.
I remember how deeply I enjoyed working on it. The project felt like a reflection of myself — the characters seemed to appear on paper almost on their own.
I loved creating illustrations that flowed seamlessly from one page to the next, continuing across the spread like water.
Then I finally realized that artistic sauce is the most comfortable material for me — with its soft tonal transitions, rich textures, and the expressive movement of water.
